New Show Touring 2010

Open Clasp's brand new show, stage two of our Herstory Told project, is now on tour...

Four women are trying to jump track.  A new name, street and a settee mean a new start, a way out and a past left behind.  However a missing wheelie bin, a broken promise and mother’s day throw the women back on familiar ground, but this time they are on a collision course with a runaway train.  Set against the back drop of regeneration and recession, Rattle & Roll is a story about chaos, the order behind it and the strengths of those women trying to survive it.

'Rattle & Roll' comes from the hard work and commitment of all the women and young women who took part in Herstory Told. They did fantastic work. We're really excited about this play, which we believe will make a positive difference to the lives of women of all ages across the North East. Addressing issues that impact on the everyday lives of women including sexual exploitation, sex work, adoption and homelessness 'Rattle & Roll' is another Open Clasp rollercoaster of a comedy drama.

'Rattle & Roll' is touring in February and March 2010. Open Clasp tour to community venues, and many shows are for invited audiences only. Performances open to the public are listed here. We'll be adding more as they're confirmed.

Herstory Told

Our Artistic Community Development Director Catrina McHugh writes about our current project…

“The project is called ‘Herstory Told’ and it means just that, telling the stories of women who live in the North East.  We will be working with women of various ages on issues including sexual exploitation, adoption, homelessness, and issues to do with body image.  We want a play that tells us the stories of women and their position in the world in 2009/2010. We want to highlight injustice and celebrate strength and courage."

The workshops have been running from the end of March to June 2009. They've gone really well and we're very excited about 'Rattle & Roll', the play that is developing from the fantastic work the women and young women involved have put in to the project so far.
